The indoor climbing wall is available to any UNC Charlotte student and their guests. No experience is necessary!
We follow the guest policy for the Student Activity Center. Please direct any questions to their staff.
We are open in the Fall and Spring Semesters of the academic year.
Typical hours are: Monday - Thursday, 5:30pm - 8:00pm
Because we share space in the Student Activity Center, hours are subject to change. Check out the facility hours page for the current schedule.
First visit of every semester is free!
- $5 entry fee, includes equipment rentals (e.g. harness and climbing shoes).
- $20 semester pass also available.
BEGINNERS - Take an Intro to Climbing Workshop
- Learn: climbing, belaying, and tying knots for Venture Outdoor Leadership's Climbing Wall.
- Belay test is included, but is taken at least 24 hours after the workshop.
- Register on Venture Outdoor Leadership's Niner Engage Page under the "Events" tab.
EXPERIENCED BELAYERS - Take our belay test
- Ask for the senior staff.
- If time permits, they will be happy to offer the test.
- Belay certifications from other walls do not convey.
BOULDERING - Bouldering is a great way to practice your skills without the need of a certified belayer.
- Having an active spotter is required.
- Your feet may not go higher than your spotter's shoulders.
- Horizontal dynamic moves (i.e. dynos) are not permitted.
- Roped climbers have right of way.
- No bouldering is permitted under a roped climber.
The climbing wall is a top-belay system that requires belayers at the bottom of every climb.
- Staff are available to belay on a first-come-first-serve basis.
- You do not need to know how to belay to climb.
- Learning may provide you more opportunities to climb since you won't have to wait for a staff member.
- Learn to belay at an Intro to Climbing workshop
- Workshops are offered throughout the semester.
- You must be certified at our wall (other gym's certifications do not transfer).
